Federal Grants for Latino Origin

by admin on August 30, 2010

According to research Latinos receive the least amount of federal aid as compared to the other minority group in US. The Latino Americans, due to culture and language difference may be not that familiar with the college entrance requirements and the ways to receive financial grants and thus they very often fail to receive so.

The Latino population is lagging behind so much so in receiving financial aid on many of the college campuses that some universities like Oregon State University is taking extra step to ensure more of Latino representation.  OSU has a group that recruits Latino students and assist them while attending. This group helps in providing support service for all college going Latino students.

There are different types of grants for Latino students who wish to pursue college education. They merely need to seek these grants. Most universities and colleges offer a wide range of grants for Latino students.

Latino students can find money for their higher studies through Federal and State Financial Aid. With the help of this grant they can defray their college cost.

In order to apply for this grant the Latino student needs to fill a form called Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit it. The deadline to submit this form is usually June 30.

Once the FAFSA is submitted, it is reviewed for the aid and is automatically sent to state financial aid for approval if the funds are available. The applicant should note that the deadline for federal financial aid and state financial aid may differ. As an applicant, be sure to meet the deadlines in order to get the aid quickly.

By this procedure the Latino students may earn federal or state grants or a federal work study opportunity. Jose Marti Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund is an example of a state based grant that is a need-based merit scholarship awarded to students who plan their education in Florida public or private institution. The award amount is $2,000.
